Hammer-style level design, built right into the Godot editor
Nailgun adds a Nailgun tab to the Godot editor, next to 2D, 3D and Script. Block out levels from brush meshes, texture them with hotspots and vertex paint, sculpt terrain, and compile it all into a lit, collidable, visibility-culled map.
About the tool
If you have mapped in Hammer, it will feel familiar: object, vertex, edge and face modes, shift-drag cloning, split views and a Compile button. What comes out is plain Godot nodes, so the map is yours to use however you like.
Nailgun replaces BrosoForgejo, our earlier standalone editor. It is free and open source under the MIT licence, and is coming soon.
Features
- Object, vertex, edge and face modes: extrude, bevel, inset, bridge, clip, boolean, slice, thicken and more
- Primitives: blocks, wedges, stairs, cylinders, cones, spheres and cables
- Hammer habits: shift-drag clones, repeat last operation, a measure tool that tells you if the player can step or jump it
- Split views: 1 to 4 views, each with its own shading mode
- Texture tools: align to grid, face or view, the Fast Texturing window, and hotspot trim sheets with their own editor
- Vertex paint: blend up to four material layers by height mask, or tint
- Displacement: non-destructive sculptable grids whose edges stitch to their neighbours
- Assets browser for materials, decals, models and prefabs, with drag-and-drop placement
- Tile meshes for pipes, vents and trusses, plus cables, decals, prop scatter and custom volumes
- Compile to meshes with lightmap UV2 and collision, with optional visibility culling, baked lighting, navmesh, room reverb and cubemaps
